    UNIT 4: WHEN’S YOUR BIRTHDAY?
    Lesson 3(4, 5, 6)
    Steps Activities
    I. Aims
    - By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to:
    Ask and answer about Wh-questions
    II. Language focus:
    + Structure: Revision
    + Vocabulary: Revision
    III. Teaching aids: Text book, Picture, workbook, puppets……
    IV. Teaching methods
    - To give a lecture.
    - Ask and answer.
    - Work individual/ groups/ pairs
    - Discuss
    V. Procedure.
    1. Class organization:
    - Greeting
    - Checking for the students' attendance.
    2. Oral test:
    - Answer teachers questions
    Where’re you from?
    When’s your birthday?
    3. New lesson:
    Warm up
    - Spend a few minutes revising the previous lesson by
    getting to pairs two of Ps to go to the front of the class to
    chant When’s your birthday? and do actions. The rest of the
    class clap to the rhythm.
    B. Main lesson
    Read and tick
    - Tell Ps that they are going to read Peters email to his
    penfriendand tick the appropriate pictures to answer the
    questions.
    - Get them to look at the questions and guess the answers
    first.
    Tell them focus on where Peter is from, when his birthday
    is and what he has from his friends. Get Ps to work in pairs
    or groups
    Give them time to do the task
    Get Ps to swap their answer before checking
    Key: 1 He is from London, England
    2 It’s on the sixth of May
    3 He has many birthday presents from his friends
    Write an invitation card.
    Tell Ps that they are going to write an invitation card to
  • invite friendsto their birthday parties, using real information
    about themselves.
    Have them work in pairs or groupsto discuss what they are
    going to write
    - Give them a time to do the task independently
    - Get Ps to swap their answer before checking as a class
    Key: Ps’ own answer.
    Project
    Tell Ps that they are going to make a birthday card for their
    friends. Prepare resources like scissors, cards, rulers,
    coloured pencils and crayons.
    Have Ps write on the cards put the following on the board
    as an example.
    Dear Thu Trang
    Happy birthday to you!
    Ngoc Khanh
    Have Ps tell the class about their birthday cards. You may
    put their carsnon the classroom board for birthday.
    C. Consolidation
    Tell Ss that they are going to practise with some questions
    when, what, where…and answer.
    D. Home link: Learn by heart the new words and structures. Prepare for
    new lesson.

    Steps Activities
    I. Aims
    - By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to:
    Use the words and pharses related to the topic Things we can
    do.
    Ask and answer questions about what someone can/ cannot
    do, using what can you do? I can……..
    II. Language focus:
    + Structure: - what can you do?
    I can…….
    + Vocabulary: review
    III. Teaching aids: Text book, Picture, cassette, CD, workbook, puppets……
    IV.Teaching methods - To give a lecture.
    - Ask and answer.
    - Work individual/ groups/ pairs
    - Discuss
    V. Procedure.
    1. Class organization:
    - Greeting
    - Checking for the students' attendance.
    2. Oral test:
  • What do you do in the morning?
    What do you do at the weekend?
    3. New lesson:
    Warm up
    Revise the verbs / verb phases to talk about activities Ps
    learnt Tieng Anh 3 (ride, read, cycle, skate, cook, play
    football, play volleyball)
    B. Main lesson
    Look, listen and repeat
    - Tell Ss that they are going to read a story in which Ps ask
    and answer about question about what they can or cannot do.
    - Ask Ps to look at four pictures to discuss the context in
    which the language is used Where are they? What are they
    doing?
    - Play the recording more than once.
    - Ask students listen and repeat after the tape
    - Play the recording again for Ps to listen and repeat.
    Language note
    Can is used to express ability (can’t = cannot)
    Point and say
    - Tell Ss that they are going to practice asking and answering
    questions about what someone can do
    - Have pupils to look at pictures to understand how the
    language is used. Ask Ps to look at the pictures to identify
    what the girl can do in each picture.
    - Point to the first picture and model the task with one pupil
    using the words under the picture. (Teacher: what can you
    do? Pupil: I can skip)
    - Ask Ps to practice in pairs using the prompts in the bubbles
    and the pictures.
    - Select some pairs to role-play the dialogue in front of the
    class.
    Work in pairs. Tell your partners what you can do.
    - Tell Ps that they are going to practice using. What can you
    do? I can…….
    - Ask them to work in pairs. One pupil asks the question and
    the other answer with facts about themselves.
    - Select some pairs to role-play the dialogue in front of the
    class.
    To extend this activity, ask them to say something they
    cannot do.
    C. Consolidation
    Have Ps to answer question.
